Match Report
Reading Town 2 v 0 Cobham, League, February 9th 2008
Report by Nigel Rousell.
This was always going to be a crucial fixture with both teams battling to avoid relegation, and with Reading Town coming into the fixture one point behind Cobham with a game in hand. This was your classic Six Pointer.
Both teams set their stall out early on not to concede and Cobham lined up with five across the midfield, with Rory Parsons deputising in goal for the injured Nick McGregor. It was only his efforts that kept Reading out, including a fine save which he tipped onto the bar. Reading then started to take the game to Cobham and it was during this spell that the pressure began to be felt, with several of the visitors starting take their frustrations out on each other.
Reading Town seized on the ill discipline, scoring twice in six minutes to make the half-time score 2-0.
Once again Cobham went in two down at the break but unlike last week's mini revival away at Banstead we were not to see a repeat, much to the disappointment of the travelling supporters.
Cobham spent most of the second period in the Reading half but lacked any real threat, as Reading were happy to see the game out. There were no further goals and Reading ran out comfortable winners in the end. With other results going against Cobham, it sees them plunged into the relegation battle.
