North Greenford United 1 v 2 Cobham, League, September 25th 2007
Report edited from North Greenford United website - http://www.northgreenfordunitedfc.co.uk/
On Tuesday evening at Berkeley Fields, in North Greenfords first Combined Counties Premier League game for nearly a month, the home side were soundly beaten by a hard-working Cobham team, lying seventeenth in the division at the start of this match.
Cobham set out their stall from the outset and, within three minutes, were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty when a challenge was adjudged to have been just outside the box.
Although Cobham continued to look the more dangerous of the two teams, it was North Greenford who went into the lead on twenty minutes when the visitors gifted the side a goal. The Cobham defence failed to clear the ball at the near post from a corner and their unfortunate keeper, Ini Ambegbe, punched the ball into his own net.
On the half hour Cobham scored a well-deserved equaliser. The ball was played to striker Dan Summers unmarked in the middle of the park, and he, ahead of the Greenford defence, coolly slotted his shot into the United goal.
Within ten minutes of the resumption, Summers scored his second, a fine near-post header from a Cobham corner, to give the visitors the lead.
Although North Greenford frantically tried to get themselves back into the game they were unable to break down a determined and resilient Cobham defence.
