Two well-taken goals earned Egham their first win of the season. Cobham, fresh from beating Dorking 5-2 on Saturday, were the team in form, but with another dose of tinkering Egham found a winning combination. Cobham came close early through Michael Carpenter’s goal bound header which was acrobatically cleared. Five minutes later Egham had, for the first time this season, a lead, as a clearance soared over the Cobham defence, and into the path of the onrushing forward, who took his time before calmly sliding the ball past Rory Parsons. The visitors’ Adam Fennell blasted a good chance as Egham rode their luck a little but the closest Egham came to scoring a nerve-settling second was from a 35 yard howitzer that Parsons did extremely well to turn on to his right post. It all seemed to be going well for Egham, but just before half time there were still signs of defensive uncertainty with Richard Gurney warmed the home keeper's palms with a rasping shot.

Only moments into the second half Parsons made another good save. Carpenter wasted a good chance for Cobham, heading wide when well placed. Eleven minutes in and some Egham good work was denied by Parsons’ timely intervention when the same home forward was free to run in on goal for a composed finish to score his and Egham's second. He almost had a hat-trick as his snap half-volley off a headed pass tested Parsons’ reflexes, and the Egham striker was seriously aggrieved when the referee deemed that the foul skipper Nick Andrews committed on him, holding him back as he was set to race free again, warranted only a yellow card.
