Cove 2 v 1 Cobham, League, September 29th 2007
Report edited from Cove FC website - http://www.covefc.com/
Cove showed their intent straight from the first whistle when a low shot forced Cobhams keeper Ini Amaegbe to turn the ball around the post for a corner with only 30 seconds of the game played. The home side were completely dominant in the first 15 minutes of this game before they finally took the lead via the Cove player who had the easy job off slotting home into the empty net after Cobhams keeper Amaegbe had been stranded in no mans land. (1-0) 14 minutes. Cobhams game plan seemed to be to hit the home side on the break and five minutes after going behind thats exactly what the visitors did. Scott Corbett won a tackle 20 yards out simply rolled the ball to Dan Summers who blasted home the equaliser from five yards out. (1-1) 20 minutes.

The second half saw the home side create a host of chances to restore the lead but the combination of some fine saves by Amaegbe in the Cobham goal and some last ditch blocking by the visitor's defenders looked like it was going to be one of those days. Then it was the turn of the referee to frustrate the home side with a debatable decision that may have changed the game after Amaegbe came out of his area to tackle but blatantly tripped the forward who stayed on his feet and was bearing in on an empty goal only for the referee to blow up for a free kick to the centre forward. Amaegbe was shown a yellow card for his foul and all advantage had been lost to the home side. Still Cove pushed on looking for the winner and went close when a header beat the keeper only to be cleared off the goal line by Corbett. Then a long-range shot headed off the goal line by Matt Barrett. Just when it looked like Cobham were going to hang on to a draw the ball was headed home what the visitors thought was a controversial winner; a shot struck a Cobham defender before being headed home whilst the referee's assistant raised the off side flag. After a conversation between the referee and his assistant, the referee waived aside the appeals by the visitors and awarded the goal. (2-1) 89 minutes. This decision infuriated the Cobham players and as a result one was shown a straight red for something he said to the referee.
