Cobham Football Club - Season 2008/2009

Match Report

Cobham 1 v 1 Bookham, League, October 27th 2007

Report edited from Bookham FC website - http://www.bookhamfootballclub.co.uk/

Bookham travelled to Cobham hoping to put a dismal run of results behind them. They started by giving the Cobham back line little time on the ball as they forced a number of free kicks and corners that always looked threatening. The midfield battle was equally tight as both sets of players looked to assert their authority.

Bookham were showing by far the greater appetite and had a great chance after only 10 minutes when a free kick swung in was met at the far post but the effort went wide. Two identical further chances ended with the same result as Cobham were put under increasing pressure.

After 28 minutes the breakthrough came as the Bookham player broke through and beat the Cobham keeper Amaegbi with a fine strike. Bookham continued to threaten and soon after a cross was allegedly handled by Cayford but the referee gave nothing.

The second half saw Cobham come right back into the game, centre forward Dean Pitcher was a thorn in the visitor's side all afternoon and he was behind almost all of Cobham’s best moments. After an hour his shot from a wide position saw a great save as Bookham increasingly came under pressure.

The 'keeper again had to be sharp rushing from his line to foil Andrew Dalehouse as the pacey winger's speed saw him race clear.

However, the Cobham breakthrough came in extraordinary fashion when a high bouncing ball was handled in the Bookham box. The resultant penalty saw Dalehouse confidently convert.

With the clock running down both teams looked for the winner but it stayed 1-1.
